The Slacker

Well, the SLOWEST driver on the McMeekin Brothers Racing Team is JANE - top speed a measly 147.536. Ken took another run at 156.969, so the brain trust decided that this stupid engine isn't going to go any faster!

The rest of the team is packing up the car & the trailer as I write this blog (in the air conditioned van) - so I will probably try to drag this out as long as I can. :)

The car wash in Wendover is our next destination today. Tomorrow we are heading up to Jackson, WY for a much deserved R&R - then we will head home. Our plan is to get to Westerville on Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks to everyone who has followed our progress or lack thereof. As they say on the salt "there is always next year!"

Rats! Part Two

Well, not much to write. The salt is the best it has been in 20 years. The car is getting tons of attention -- but not running well enough to set a record.

The photographer from speedhunter.com took a ton of pictures that he said will be posted on the website.

He posted the story on Friday.

(http://speedhunters.com and then click on "Bonneville Speedweek Coverage."
The folks who took the pictures were very nice & the pictures are exceptional)

Maybe that will ease our pain.

Rats!

Still diagnosing our problem. Don took two runs today trying to figure out why this cute little engine* isn't going any faster. Not one to give up easily, we will try again tomorrow.

*The car & engine are getting quite a bit of attention. Today as the guys were working in the pits, two journalists from a Japanese car magazine came up & interviewed Don & took pictures. Can't wait to see that article. :)

Sorry the news isn't any better from the salt, but we are having a great time - the weather, the salt, the people, are wonderful as usual.

Those who need more details about the engine & the solution, call us.

Need for Speed - 9 mph to be exact

Hello Everyone,
Don & I arrived on the salt on Saturday afternoon and proceeded to set up our pits. Since we usually have about 6 people helping us, this time was quite a shock! We did it though, and only needed a little help from some neighbors to get the car out of the trailer.

We sailed through tech inspection, got fuel & set up the pit area.

On Sunday, Ken & Marilyn Grimes arrived and we headed out to the salt on a cool, perfect morning. After breakfast at the Salt Flats Café, we took the car to the starting line – very short I might add – less than 15 cars in both lines. We waited less than an hour for our first run. AMAZING!!!

Marilyn, our first driver, did a great job, but the car only ran about 153 mph. We need to go over 167 mph to secure a record. After three runs, we determined that we needed to make some adjustments. Don was able to get it up to 158 mph, still short of what we need. So back to the pits to check all the systems. We discovered that #3 spark plug was not firing properly, everything else seemed to be in order. We are going to check the oxygen levels tomorrow before running.

For those of you who have been here with us before, just want to let you know that the high temp today was about 76 degrees. Can you believe it???

Back out to the salt tomorrow for another try. We’ll see!

We really miss our many crew members from past years & wish you all were here with us!
